The story isn’t over……

Have you noticed that in a lot of movies there is a teaser at the end, for the next installment of your favorite super hero story.  Telling a story in just one movie is moving aside for movie trilogies, and even more.   The plus side is that they are able to take well written books (the Hobbit comes to mind) and make good films from them.  The down side is you have to watch all the credits and endure the cleaning crew dirty looks to find out if there is a teaser at the end!

The story of Christ’s birth was just the beginning of the story of course, but after a bit of credits, (roughly 2 years) there is a teaser at the end.  The Magi come to find him.  Because it is so significant, and because Jesus is still an infant, it often is included as something that occurs on the night of His birth.  Scripture is clear however, that it did not occur on the night of His birth but possibly up to two years later.  Mary and Joseph had moved from a stable to a house, and the Magi had traveled a long distance to get there.

The Magi are fascinating and while we do not know much about them, they are the trailer for what would be coming.  In fact, we find in their story not just a curios aside, but fore-gleam of worship, a prophetic enactment of things to come, things that will involve us.  Want to find out more?

 See you at church.
